Poppy Pageant

More little red-haired girls

Than we’d hoped for or imagined

It looks just like

A beauty queen pageant!

Sophie and I, artistic hosses

Are painting their portraits

Till our poppy bosses

Are simply stems

With great hair losses!

We’ve less than a week

To get the job done

We’re hoping for good weather

With plenty of sun!

Next Sophie and I

Will sit idly by

While sunshine and showers

Coax our sunflowers

To burst from their beds

And lift up their heads

Then we’ll paint all their faces

To show at exhibits,

And gallery places!

Three elegant views of the royal poppy, Bertie! I hope we see some of that sunshine you mentioned in your poem, instead of the 1.75 inch hail we had this evening!!!

I love the loose, fresh feel of these poppies.

The poppy is the show off of the gardens! I love that they dance on the surface of the paper!
