Last Saturday, during Mechanicsburg's wine walk, I had the pleasure of working on a plein air streetscape for a few hours. It's hard to believe now, but I actually got too cold to continue. I wasn't dressed for the overcast, breezy day (with the occasional drizzle) and had to pack up a bit early. But the folks strolling around town were very pleasant and interested in watching me work, which is always enjoyable.
There were a lot more cars on the street than I included in this pastel. I orignially didn't want any cars in the picture, and it really proved tricky dealing with all the traffic while trying to work out my view. So, at the time I left, there were blank spaces were cars were parked. I took a few quick photos and packed up. Then, at home, I discovered my photos were not what I needed to "fill in the blanks," so to speak.
I set the picture aside for a few days to garden. Today I looked it over and said, What the heck - I'll just put in the cars.
So, there you have the story of this ... not-exactly-accurate, but colorful result of my first plein air outing!
My work can be seen on South Mountain Sketchbook
