"To War." by Michael LeKites

I think I'm finished. Acrylic in canvas, 11x14.
Again, this is a painting from a model that provides stock images for artists. Link to her site is provided. Just something for pure fun.

Thanks for the link to the site...lots of interesting costumes and poses that could tell a story. I laughed when I came across the zombie pics.

I've used stock images about 2-3 times in my life. It's hard to find good ones and even then you're only building on the image. I thought the photo I based this on was pretty good and it's the sort of thing I would like to paint more of if I had my own models and costumes to work with. which I eventually will.
I lot of people don't like working from photos but I don't care to sit out in the middle of a filed with bugs and gofers either. I like working in the studio. Also, people don't realize it but a lot of the old painters worked from photos. Here's a link to an article on that. Both Picasso and Degas worked from photos, for instance. It's a tool like anything else.

I agree with you Michael, photos are a tool like any other and why wouldn't you use them if you can? I do prefer working from life mostly because there are things that the eye sees that the camera will edit out. That said, if you practice working from life you will be able to "correct" the photos.

Absolutely true. The camera can't pick up all the colors and can distort angles too. That's where you have to know how to correct.
