Sparrow, 4 x 4" oil by Jill Peckelun

It was a scorching hot day one summer when I was taking a walk and saw a little bird laying dead on the street.  I picked the limp body up intending to place it respectfully under a shrub when I felt...a heartbeat.  I cradled it in my hands the last two blocks home and took it into my backyard.  Dunked its beak in the birdbath water, placed it in the shade and put some birdseed by it.  As it started to revive I took a photograph on which I based this painting.  When I checked later it had flown away.  This is possibly the best thing I have ever done in my life- and I'm not referring to the painting.

Jill, your use of grays and the look in that birds eye and his position says a lot. A very strong painting.

I love the painting, and the story that accompanied it. How wonderful that you were there at the right moment to save its life - and that you took the action to do so.
