oil on panel
I probably should not admit this, but I have been having a hard time getting myself to paint lately. I only share it with this group as I am certain there are many DPP members who have struggled with motivation from time to time. I seem to be in a post holiday slump. I blame it partly on the cold weather which is making it too easy for me to postpone painting outside where everything is brown and uninspiring. So in an effort to at least do something I am starting to look over some photographs as potential painting subject matter. I don't really like working from photos, but then it is nice to be inside and warm. And at least it gets me painting.
I worked on this one yesterday - from a photo taken on a camping trip to Henlopen, DE in late October -- in fact, the weekend before Sandy hit this coast. I remember it being too windy to think about painting, so I was taking pictures of some things that inspired me. In this case it was the pattern of shadows the grasses cast on the dunes that caught my eye. Now several months later, it is hard to find that same inspiration, but I am trying. And dreaming of warmer days at the beach....

I like the soft touch in this painting, Julie. Very nice! I get slumps too, but was encouraged recently by the 30 day challenge. Hang in there :) and Happy New Year!
Thanks Sunny!
Julie- sometimes I think anything is easier than painting
Go easy on yourself. I'm sure you'll get back in the groove.

Beautiful beach scene.
This is just beautiful Julie. I think the short days have a lot to do with lack of energy and inspiration.
Julie... we all have those periods. And we all have our ways to handle it. Sometimes You need a brake... Sometimes You have to NOT take any brakes and just work over issue... Sometimes You have to change something.( Start another painting, take another medium, go sketch outdoors, forget outdoors, go work in studio... Anyway - whatever it takes.) And sometimes simply nothing works for a while regardless what You do. But good news are: it ALWAYS passes. So Just like Ron says: "Hang on there!..".
Thanks everyone for your encouragement. I know I just need to make myself do it...the holiday is over.
