I have always loved these flowers that seem to magically pop
up from the ground in August each year. They are
called 'Magic Lilies', or 'Surprise Lilies', and are
such a joy to find in the late summer garden. I really
enjoyed painting these today in my friend Pat's garden
(and also the delicious lunch she made for us)!
My gear on site this morning...
Pat working on her painting. Our umbrellas really came in handy
when that hot sun popped out. If you look closely you can
see two batches of 'magic lilies' among the black-eyed susans.
If you would like to see more of my work,
interested in purchasing any of my paintings you see
here on this blog, please contact me.

I've also heard they are called "Naked Ladies". What a great location you had today.
Lovely ladies all.
Lovely painting Claire! I like the balanced composition in this one. My neighbor has a few of these just sticking out in the middle of the yard. I always think they are bizarre looking - no foliage, just a long stem with this funky flower on top.
Thanks, Linda - I have heard that they are also called 'Resurrection Lilies'!
Julie - I always thought they were rather magical, and might have been placed there by the garden fairies :)
Beautiful Claire. I'd like to think the garden fairies have been at work!
Looks like a great day!
Love the flowers and the "magical" background.
Thanks Deb! I just wish my garden fairies would do some weeding :)
Thank you, Maria - it was!
Thank you Cecelia. The hints of purple in the background are some Purple Hyssop (licorice mint), which I purposely left vague so they wouldn't complete with the lilies.
