PLEASE CRITIQUE

WIP - 'Caught Between A Rock and A Hard Place'
Original Oil Painting
by Claire Beadon Carnell

AFTER SOME REVISIONS
'Caught Between A Rock and A Hard Place'
Little Round Top
Gettysburg National Battlefield
Oil on Stretched Canvas
24 x 20

Still not completely done yet, but I am pleased with the
progress today.  I want to do some glazing once the
paint is dry, and also a little more work on the crack
in the right boulder.   I think it is going in the right
direction, and appreciate your input!

I have been working on this painting for the past three days,
and would so appreciate some fresh eyes looking at it
and giving me a good solid critique.  I promise I won't cry -
I really want some honest, constructive criticism.
I felt SO compelled to paint this that it kept me up
one night, and I want it to be right - so I would really appreciate
your ideas and suggestions.  Thanks!

Notes:  the upper left corner is the most 'unfinished' part of the
painting. -   I am still working on this.
Time of day is 9:00 AM. - morning light.

I like it! The colors are great, and the contrast between the pretty flowers and the hard boulders is interesting.

This is gorgeous as usual Claire. The only comment is that my eye keeps going to the crack in the rock on the right side. Something about the contour of the top of the rock and the color of the crack maybe?

Wonderful Claire! I agree with Mary Beth. Just cool down that area a little more. I love the warm sun light creating the center of interest. I love the title!

I am really appreciating the comments, everyone. Sharon Benner wrote me a note suggesting that I might thin out the redbud. I will be doing some 'tweaking' this weekend!

I like the wispy feel of the redbuds now that you thinned it out and the yellow showing through the redbud causes some vibration.

Thanks Sharon - that was a great suggestion from you, and I really think it helped the painting. I also darkened the rock on the left to provide more contrast for the pink blooms.
What I really like about critique is that it gets you looking at your work from a different perspective, and consequently helps you see other things in the painting that might also need some attention.

Thanks again to those who provided critique!

--How generous of your artist friends to spend their time critically evaluating your painting and what wonderful, insightful suggestions they made.
It is an inspiring, beautiful work, Claire.
