This little boy is fascinated by the goats in a petting zoo, which are much larger than him. I like my photo, but worry a bit about the subject being overly cute. I tend to have a crusty attitude towards cuteness (which is often lacking in truth) but was able to be charmed by this image anyhow. There is an ominous tone to the largely unseen goat, which I think helps. So what do you think, is this corny?

Taryn, I don't think you have anything to worry about here -- and this is coming from someone who shares your concern about cuteness in art. You've captured the mood well and your style helps you avoid the sentimentality that this piece COULD produce, if done in an overly detailed, tightly rendered fashion. In my opinion, it's beautifully done!
Thank you Amy for your thoughtful feedback- it's much appreciated!
Amy is exactly right-your painting style avoids all cloying cuteness. PLUS... capital P..L..U..S, your ability to capture the essence of fleeting expressions, pensive moments, all human emotions, poses, their clothing, etc. is amazing. Same goes for your still lifes. I am so lucky to have 2 of your works , green beans and strawberries, in my kitchen to look at and inspire me every day.
