Koi Pond by Mary Beth Brath

Koi Pond by Mary Beth Brath
Chroma Interactive Acrylics

This was created for the DPP Challenge hosted by Linda Young. I had so much fun with this painting. Trying a different genre is a great way to "stretch and grow".

Wonderful subject to paint! Glad to know you enjoyed it. I did my Koi painting 2 years ago and it took almost 8 month from start to finish... I'm thinking to do another one some day. Maybe in oils. Love those fish! And for something that you feel "out of your comfort zone" you did really well.

So pretty and wonderful movement

They look just like fish in my "real life" pond...their fins gracefully moving with their bodies. I like how you captured the depth of the water too.

Thanks for the comments everyone. When you heart is in the work, it flows. Yesterday I stayed home with a sick child. I am determined to paint outside on Thursdays so I found a subject in my backyard not far from the sliding glass doors where my son was sleeping in the family room. That painting will most likely be painted over. Ha Ha! If I had photo shop, I would do what Claire suggests for checking my values. Oh - I'm rambling...way excited today.
