Lion on Gourd by Dianne Lorden

Taking a break from painting to do some gourd crafting and thought I'd share this recently finished wood-burned piece. The gourd rattle is for someone who wanted a portrait of a male lion. She provided me with her favorite images to work from, which was very nice. Subtle coloring was difficult, as the lion is pretty much gourd-colored. But the eyes were fun and rewarding.

My paintings can be seen at South Mountain Sketchbook.

Dianne, this is beautiful. Very detailed and realistic. I tried wood burning but I just did not take the time to get the hang of it.I think it takes a light touch plus working on a surface that is not flat takes practice.
