"Thinking About Rothko" by Taryn Day

oil on panel
6"x6"

I'm still working with my theme of people in museums.  I took 300 photos last weekend at the Philadelphia Museum of Art, but found that most of them didn't have enough light.  Only the modern wing was well lit, and a few small rooms with ancient sculpture.

Light is always concern when it comes to photography, but if you like it... you will pull it out even from not the best photo. You will have great series of painting, Taryn!

Thank you Tatiana and Maria.

But where is Rothko?

Taryn Day said...

Cecelia, she's got him on either side. I liked the composition, but maybe next time I'll include the actual painting!

I like just seeing a hint of Rothko. I have been staring at the painting and imagining what is going through her head.

Her body language tell so much and yet leaves much to the imagination. Wonderful painting.

I was just teasing Taryn. I know the emphasis was on the figure, studying the artwork, but I suppose, if ever there was to be an artwork within an artwork, Rothko's soft, hazy , horizontals would make a comfortable background. As always, I love your work and so appreciate your versitality abd talent.

Taryn, I just posted a painting I did in plein air – if you could call it that – at the Westmoreland Museum near Pittsburgh. I really like the tension on this one you did!

I had to come back to this one again. Ron used the word Tension and that is spot on.
