I documented the stages of this street scene, from a few years ago, because I was experimenting with an underpainting that used odorless turpenoid brushed over (what would be) contrasting pastel. It was too busy of a composition to try a technique that was new to me. I lost track of what I was attempting to do and, although I have used similar underpaintings since then, it's been a while. I think working in the studio over the coming winter will be a good time to experiment with this anew - on some less complicated pictures!

I always am intrigues to see the under-layers of pastels, and how that affects the top-most color. This is wonderful, Dianne.
Great post Dianne. Thanks for coming to the gallery yesterday.
