Chincoteague Refuge By Steve Wetzel 8x10 Plein Air

I shared one of the marina paintings from Chincoteague so it's only fair I follow with one from the wildlife refuge. This is an evening scene while the ponies were grazing. 8x10 on linen panel.

I love the composition with its emphasis on the negative spaces--the sky is so subtle, yet its color is so dramatic and and a bit disturbing.

I love the feel of that evening sunset and the openness. Very beautiful!

You have been busy! I love that tiny strip of color on the horizon line and the branch that keeps my eyes on the canvas.
