This is a drawing I created some years ago when invited to be included in a hardcover book entitled Creative Colored Pencil Portraits. The book/project was the brainchild of Colored Pencil Society of America founder, Vera Curnow. Vera provided a variety of photographs of this particular female model. Each artist selected for the book was to choose a photograph on which to base their composition. I selected a photograph of the model which featured her standing by this window with her arm outstretched. The second figure I added, and purposely kept rather ambiguous. My intention was to call to mind those times when, try as we might, we are powerless to reach certain people emotionally, or powerless to influence certain situations. The book is most likely out of print at this point, but I have seen it in some library collections.
Out of Reach eventually went on to be included in another book, The Best of Colored Pencil 4, and I am posting it today because it also happens to be my entry into the upcoming Members' Exhibition to be on display October 29 through November 28 at the Adams County Arts Council's brand new Arts Education Center at 125 S. Washington Street in Gettysburg. The Grand Opening is scheduled for 10 - 5 on Saturday, October 29 with tours of the new facility, performances, artist and culinary demonstrations and more. I will be demonstrating colored pencil techniques and watercolor pencil techniques from 11 until noon. Hope you can stop out and visit!

This is an extremely beautiful and moving drawing. I wish I could see it larger- can't seem to zoom in. Congratulations on a very, very fine piece.
