Trees in Layers - Deb Watson

Here's a detail from a watercolor painting I'm doing for a special exhibit at the York Art Association. In the first picture, you can see where I put on color, very wet, and added salt, which made the little texture spots. After that was dry, I started adding more layers on dry paper to define some of the clumps of leaves. Unfortunately, when I photographed the stream, it was all green, which is boring, so I'm adding some fall colors to some of the trees to break it up.

Jack of all trades - I am willing to tackle any subject. It may be a disaster at first, but I keep a sense of humor and perseverance and figure things out. I'm not at all timid. I'd rather jump in to something new and have a huge, glorious disaster than wimpy results. It's just more fun and, it's only a piece of paper.

Gorgeous landscape/waterscape, Debi. I so love these types of watercolors and I wish I could figure out the layering technique. The one time I tried to use salt for effect, it stuck to my paper and I had to scrape it off. What kind of salt did you use?
