"Red Leaf Lettuce Crop" by Taryn Day

oil on paper
5.75" x 7"

The vivid purplish-red of the red leaf lettuce in the early morning sun was an amazing contrast to all the surrounding green, and so I had to try and capture it.  The purple cabbages in the sun were beautiful too, but will have to wait for another day.
I've been given permission to paint at Blooming Glen Farm, and it sure is nice to be able to walk around the crops instead of being stuck viewing everything from the side of a road.  I did feel a little guilty painting while seeing people working in the distance- kind of like Peter Rabbit, enjoying the lettuce while Farmer McGregor labored.

I really like your big brush style, Taryn...leaves a lot for my imagination to finish...great background, too!

Your loose and painterly approach enlivens a palette that shimmers like a summer morning - sweet painting, Taryn!

Fantastic lead into the painting with the rows of ground and vegetation, Taryn. This is another really fine painting!
