Mrs Lightey's Garden
watercolor and ink in sketchbook
This is only a portion of Mrs. Lightey's secret garden; she had a multitude of flowers and a beautifully manicured lawn to go with them. Everything was in its place. It's a secret garden because she doesn't let many people in to it.
Later in the day, I walked my two granddaughters down the road where I had painted this one; Mrs. Lightey came out to the end of the road to greet us. She had seen me painting earlier and invited us in to take a closer look at her flower and vegetable gardens and raised beds. She gave each of the girls their choices of colored stones from around the beds. I'm sure by now they are on the floor of their bedrooms and far from sight.
Lucky for me, I took along some primary colors to paint plein air. I love painting with watercolors!

I love your style here, Linda. It gives the perfect story-book feeling for this delightful subject. Sounds like your granddaughters will remember this as a magical moment.
Such a freshness and youthfulness to this one...So like a beautiful storybook!
Fantastic post Linda. Great way to start my day!
Thank you for your comments. You've given me a goal to keep working toward; one I think my granddaughters might like to participate in too.
Great fresh colors Linda. Love the story behind the painting!
