"Codorus Great Blue Heron" Acrylic by Charlotte Yealey

12x16
Acrylic on Arches Paper
I have not posted for a while and it is not because I have'nt been painting but does anyone else get in a rut where you are not satisfied with anything you paint? Well that's where I was until I visited the Susquehanna Valley Plein Air painters while they were painting at Codorus Park near Hanover. It was a beautiful day when I left the gallery in Hanover and drove out to the lake and talked with the 4 artist at work. I should have took my paints but just had my camera and captured this Blue heron who stopped by to see what was going on. This one still needs some work.

You just took me back to that moment of sublime privilege - watching the Great Blue Heron open those magnificent wings and take flight. You have captured him beautifully, Charlotte!

Charlotte-I was just talking to Claire on the phone and she told me about your beautiful blue heron painting--she was so right-you have catured the form and grace of this bird.

You really captured the weight of this bird. We have a nesting area near by and it is funny to see these huge birds, high in the trees standing in their nests.
