A Promise to Return, featured on book cover

The drawing seen at the top of this post, entitled A Promise To Return, is one I did quite a few years ago as part of my Beyond the Battlefield series of Civil War-themed images. It features a father saying good-bye to his daughter as he prepares to leave and join a local regiment. For many years it was probably the most popular print in this series, and seems to strike a chord with many visitors to my Gettysburg gallery.

Yesterday I received a proof of a book cover that will feature this drawing, an historical narrative written by Lois Lambert, based on an actual collection of Civil War letters written by a husband and wife to each other during the war. I'm pleased to see the way the graphic designer incorporated my work into the cover design, and wanted to share it with you.

Congratulations! This is a fabulous piece and I can see why it is a popular print. Nothing more touching than a man with his child(ren).

Thanks, everyone. I've had various people ask to use my work previously, but this is actually my first book cover with a paying customer, and I was very pleased with how the final product turned out.
