ON THE ROAD TO PENN STATE By Cecelia Lyden

oil on stretched canvas

11x14

This painting was done from a photo I took as we, my husband, daughter, and son-in-law were driving up to Penn State to watch my granddaughter and her Gator teammates play the Penn State lacrosse team. It was an early March day and there were remnants of snow still on the hills. Again, I just kept shooting photo after photo as we were moving along. The mountain scenery is beautiful and although there was not much sunshine, I was able to get a few decent photos.

Cecilia, you managed to make it look like there was plenty of sunshine! I was struck right away by how you captured the light of the day. Perhaps I'm seeing your interpretation of what you had to work with, in which case, wow! Bully for you! I'm also impressed with how a modern road scene can be made so lovely.

So Pennsylvania! The state is so beautiful you can't help but snap pictures while driving. One time we were stuck in traffic on the turnpike, Phillip was driving, and I was so happy we were going 10mph so I could take pictures of the countryside.

Dianne--it was a partly cloudy/partly sunny day--I caught a bit of sunshine in this shot.
Mary Beth--Rich was driving 65m/hr--my Canon power shot G2[ which I have treated very poorly] takes amazing pictures even when we are moving that fast. I just keep holding the camera up to the window and snap away.
