HAUNTED
by Claire Beadon Carnell

'Haunted'
Oil  7 x 5
Available

I did this painting as part of the Daily Paintworks
'The Lincoln Challenge'.  I've always thought that
Lincoln had such a haunted, tragic countenance, and I was
hoping to catch that in doing this portrait of him.  It's not all
that difficult to understand why he looked as though he
carried the weight of the world on his shoulders.
I chose to paint him using only burnt umber, ultramarine blue
and white as part of the 'black and white' aspect of the challenge.

Nicely done Claire.

A good choice of colors, Claire; he does indeed appear haunted. There's no end of fascination with A.L. It's like fate drove him to that place, he had to make awful decisions, and then he was martyred. Makes you think...
I appreciated your comments about Harper's Ferry - I get so involved with my surroundings, I'll forget about the trail until I see someone with their pack and stick. Yet another layer of interest!

I really wanted to do this one but again time got away from me. Nice!
