"The beginning of A Great Adventure" work in progress by Michael Lekites

I'm off from the day job today so I get to work in a quiet house with nothing to do but listen to good music and paint. So... continuing on. I've developed a little better idea of where I want to go. Also have come up with a title of sorts "The Beginning of A Great Adventure." I love The Lord of the Rings and the Narnia movies. So, the influence is there, sure. We all have influences. As I've said before, I want to create stories as much as I want to just paint a painting. I have 4 paintings that I have been planning for the past few years but have not felt confident enough to begin them yet, due to the amount of work they will take. Construction of sets, costumes and so forth. This is a small step to getting just a bit closer to those paintings.

I found your comments very interesting, Michael, as I'm fond of telling my advanced students that sometimes they have to invest time in a painting simply because it will be the stepping stone to the painting they really had aspired to do. Not sure if that's exactly what you're saying here, but it did strike a chord with me. Very interesting composition and point of view. Looks like you're off to a great start!

Beautiful piece - such a dreamy, soft feel. So peaceful - wonderful painting!

This painting makes me feel as though I am a Peregrine falcon, swooping down through the sky.
I love it.
