This is my version of the 10 minute challenge for the Daily Paintworks Blog. The challenge was to select a simple subject and paint for only 10 minutes in each small square section. I took this challenge one step further by limiting my palette to just 3 colors plus white, and wiping my palette clean after each section so that I was mixing fresh color and not dipping into the mixtures I made for the previous section. I was strict with myself and put the brush down when the timer went off - resisting the urge to make any adjustments beyond the 10 minutes.
I highly recommend this as a fun challenge to all painters. I think even doing 2 or 3 sections would be a great warm up exercise before tackling larger studio work. It was a great practice in pacing, loosening up, and letting go of the need to refine everything. I have taken many classes to try to loosen my style...but all I really had to do was to set a timer.

Considering the limits for both palette and timing, your results are rather wonderful. The motion created by all the different positions is a bonus, too. For just an exercise, it sure would make a pretty addition to any kitchen!
Love it! you handled the challenge so well. I seemed to muddle through it on my lego brick piece. I like the idea of limiting the palette. I am going to try that next time. I agree a great warm up exercise. In fact, I painted one lego brick taking more time to complete.. I'll post soon.. it's fun to see the difference.
Wow - this is so amazing for a ten minute exercise. I've never tried these ten minute challenges but I agree they would be so fun for us all to try. Your results were amazing working with such a limited palatte too.
Ten minutes really makes an artist focus on the essential shapes and "essences" of the subject and it shows in the lovely looseness of your paintings. Nice job, Julie!
Great apples, Julie.
Good job! These timed exercises can be a great way to get into a painting groove, and I am proud that you stuck to your guns and did not go more tan 10 minuts on each!
Nice Julie, I should try this sometime. It certainly forces you to not overwork.
