Late Night, Maria Kovalenko Leysens

This is a demo that I did for class today.
We used night scenes with artificial light as inspiration.
It is a good exercise to get the darks as dark as they need to be.
(I often tell my students not to be afraid of the dark.)
And to see the contrasts and color of artificial light.
I could have made the light warmer,
but it really feels like daylight in Times Square at night.

Very striking--I have always wanted to try a night scene--this may be the push I need.

This is so beautiful. I love how you were able to make these lights come to life. Looks like a fun place. I love you telling the students not to be afraid of the dark - that's great!

Nice painting and also fun that you take a risk!
