Pastel Portrait Session, Maria Kovalenko Leysens

We had an enjoyable time at our portrait session today.
 Great model with great stories to share.
Pastel on sanded paper
 Just about an hour and one half of work time.

I think a successful portrait is one that makes the viewer feel as if they know the subject of the painting - there's an almost subconscious connection. You do this with every portrait you paint. This is magnificent.

Such a wonderful use of pastel in creating all those contours. You make it look easy ... which is really isn't!
