This painting is my exercise from Laurie's pastel class yesterday at the Adams County Arts Council's Imagination Station in Gettysburg; I finished it at home in the afternoon and a bit this morning. Our subject was shading and I used a photo Laurie had taken in Colorado.
It's great fun to hang out with other pastelists in a relaxed and messy room; we're already talking about putting together a plein air group for summer!

I love the autumn colors, the grasses, the flow of the river and and sweep of the terrain--moving, moving us to the mountains in the background.
I also enjoy the graceful sloping of the composition. Great foreground.
I think the hardest thing about pastel painting are skies and water- obviously you do not! Beautiful sky and water!
