Bal Masque, Maria Kovalenko Leysens

This is a quick watercolor painting (12x20 inches) that I did last year for a local show. I did not enter it because it is not my usual style. I took another look at it this year and I guess it grew on me. Kind of fun, so I entered it.
The inspiration is from a photo that was taken from the annual Kokoon club, Bal Masque which was the ticket to get if you were in Cleveland about 80 years ago.

It rather looks like a snapshot of a Hollywood party for some reason; maybe during the roaring 20's. Fabulously interesting piece, Maria!

I'm glad you posted it Pat. This is a very dramatic painting. I knew it was yours as soon as I saw it! Really like it.

Always enjoy your work. This is a nice size too! I was talking on the phone to a festival coordinator yesterday and she mentioned the image of your painting that was put on the DPP Facebook page this week. She loves how you are able to capture the model's personality/charactar in your work.

I think this painting is a winner--loose, colorful, expressive--I'm trying to recall a fanous artist from the past, whose work this reminds me of--anyway--really like this one.
