Sugar plums and sleeping angels, watercolor by Linda Young

Sugar plums and sleeping angels
Christmas 2010
Watercolor 5 " x 7"

Kaysi and Abby both loved their toy-box which was totally filled with their stuffed friends.  Many times, the two of them would go to the box, stand up on their hind legs and with their mouth, pull out almost every toy inside it just to find the right one to play with. They made quite a mess.

A few of the toys in this painting are some of their favorites; like the teddy bears.  Each dog also loved to shred the Christmas presents to find a treat tucked inside the paper, or another new chewy or squeaky toy to play with.  They both seemed to love Christmas as much as little children do.  In this painting, Kaysi is the curious one with the cocked head in the foreground.

In the background, is Abby who could be found sleeping with her paw up on something and her head resting there too.  It looked uncomfortable; but Abby always seemed to be resting peacefully.

Last year at this time, I had two West Highland White Terrier "Girls" named, Abby and Kaysi.  Abby was with us when the holidays began; but she suddenly took ill soon after Christmas and she died on January 30th of this year. I couldn't save her; we did everything we could.

Kaysi still searches for her now and then and I think of her often.  Abby was a wonderful companion and her "sister" Kaysi is learning that same loving way.  This painting is dedicated to the wonderful memories of THE Sleeping Angel named "Abby".  God Bless your sweet heart, little girl.

Oh Linda, this is precious. The story ending is so heartbreaking but what a beautiful tribute to your girls and a loving memory of Abby. This is just beautiful - thank you for sharing.
