Two Vistas by Julie Riker

View From Samuel Lewis State Park
11x14 oil

King's Gap Vista
8x10 oil
It is just a coincidence that I ended up painting 2 different vistas this weekend. Though these paintings look like they could have been painted at the same location, the first one was painted at Samuel Lewis State Park in Wrightsville, and the second was painted at King's Gap State Park in Carlisle, where I was painting with several other plein air painters at the Garden Festival. The weather was similar on both days...bright clear light and perfect puffy clouds.
I am surrounded by farms and fields where I live in Central PA, but I have never before attempted to paint an overlook like this before. I found it daunting at first, but quickly came to love the abstract color shapes.

Both are beautiful, especially with the quality of the light, Julie.

Fantastic Julie. I love the way you broke up the tree mass at the bottom of the first painting. The light is excellent also.

Strikingly lovely landscapes--strong, self-assured painting. Always a pleasure to look at your work, Julie.

These are wonderful Julie! You even captured the shadows cast by those puffy clouds!

Great job for your first overlook landscapes.
