"Butterfly" Pastel by Charlotte Yealey

9x12
Pastel on Wallis paper
I painted this pastel from a photo I took of a butterfly on my butterfly bush. I think this called a blue and purple butterfly when I googled it. I tried a new technique that a fellow daily painter told me about by using alcohol on the colors on the background. I should have used lighter colors for the background then the butterfly would show up better.

Blue spotted purple is what I have called them. This is a lovely piece Charlotte.

I have dabbled in pastel painting--How in the world do you accomplish such beautiful, delicate work with those chunky pastel sticks, stubs and pencils?
