Wildwood in Full Bloom by Julie Riker

Yesterday I enjoyed another beautiful day of plein air painting at Wildwood Lake. The lotus flowers and purple loosestrife are in full bloom now and create masses of color that fill the lake. With this painting I was trying to not be too focused on details (sometimes hard for me to do), but rather play with the larger color shapes.

Your loose style in this painting and the large color mass in the middleground is eye catching. Even with freer brushstrokes, your color and mass composition is beautifully balanced.

The soft quality is delightful. It seems like two hue families, yet it just burts with color. and the contrast dances.

This is positively beautiful, Julie. What gorgeous color and depth. I had really wanted to go, but was feeling under the weather. I may just have to drive up and get some photographs.
