Lotus and Loosestrife - Impressionistic Acrylic Plein Air Palette Knife Landscape by Pennsylvania Daily Painter Pat Koscienski

Lotus and Loosestrife
8" x 10"
Acrylic
I was painting at Wildwood Wetlands on Wednesday with our group, the Susquehanna Plein Air Painters, to try to get the yellow lotus and purple loosestrife before they make their exit for the year. I tried another palette knife piece, a little larger this time. I'd like to go even larger, but don't know about how to handle the amount of paint I would have to put out. A lot of interested people stop to talk, and acrylics can dry on you fast, especially when there is a breeze. I've tried using the wet palette, but that can liquify my paint and I want the full body consistency for the knife work. Terrific piece, Pat! The rough handling of the impasto offers enough information to complete the image while creating a lively and gestured surface.

Having stopped at Wildwood Lake tonight, I know the spot you painted this from and think the texture in your painting is really nice and the scene well depicted. The purple flowers on the lake are nearly gone as of tonight; it's nice to see how well you've captured them to make them live on.

I know I already commented on this on your personal blog, but I just have to say again how much I like this and enjoy seeing it again! This is such a beautifull rendered painting, Pat.
(Yesterday I got over to Wildwood and got some photographs - the yellow lotus was absolutely incredible!!!)
