Haybales by Julie Riker

There is a field near my house where the hay is harvested by machine into these perfect cylinders, then scattered randomly around.....with no line or order....as if they were dropped from the sky. I painted this 6x8 oil completely on location.

You have a spontaneous and gestured feel throughout - the fluid brushwork and full value range describe the volumes and the brilliant light - sweet piece!

I admire all of you plein air artists who do their art this way. I love the purple and greens and you have done a beautiful job with this. I hope to meet you Friday.
