Picking Beans by Jill Foster Soft Pastel

This painting was one I did for a Farmland Preservation Artist Show. The young man shown picking beans is a vendor at the Farmers' Market in Bellefonte, PA every Saturday during the growing season.

This is wonderful, Jill. I love the sharp diagonals, and the high contrast in value. The tall corn keeping the figure in shadow is just perfect.

Jill, this is exquisite. I am such a fan of farmers and it kills me to see so much farmland up for sale out where I live. I've always wanted to be a farm family but just didn't grow up in it...which means I haven't a clue. I have such a respect for them and this image is beautiful to my eyes. A great cause!

Great post Jill! I love your artwork. Please do share more information about the Farmland Preservation group. Also, Bellefonte Pa is one of my favorite places in Pennsylvania. Our blog group should go there for a paint out sometime!
