"My Dad" Colored Pencil by Charlotte Yealey
My Dad
Colored Pencil
9x11
This is my dad relaxing in his hammock after a long hard day of work. The empty chair is where my mom would sit. I used a photo of my dad from 1971 for this painting and I planned to give it to him on his birthday on June 7th. He passed on May 12 so in his memory, I finished the painting. My mom passed in 2002. I miss them both immensely.

I am so sorry, Charlotte. I understand your loss and know how you are feeling. It is a wonderful way to remember him, kicked back and relaxing, and the chair for your mom. You have created good memories and a beautiful piece of art.
Wonderful image! So touching and meaningful and personal. Thank you for sharing.
This is a great piece. This tells an instant story. It is one that we all can connect with. This is truely a wonderful piece of art.
Charlotte, what a wonderful painting of your father. My sympathies to you - my husband and I just lost his mother this March, and when she passed, we suddenly became the 'older generation'. This painting will bring you much comfort - it's such a great, relaxed image of your Dad.
I am so sorry to hear of the recent passing of your dad, Charlotte. I know you must have shed gallons of tears in the painting of this piece, though I suspect that many of them were also happy tears. This is absolutely fabulous and I hope it finds a place of honor in your own home, preferably your kitchen or your living room where you can see it all of the time!
You are so blessed to be able to create this lovely artwork of your father. My parents have also passed away - both from heart disease. My prayers are with you Charlotte.
THIS PIECE IMMEDIATELY BROUGHT SAD AND FOND MEMORIES FOR ME. WHEN I LOST MY MOTHER SHE HAD BEEN SUFFERING WITH ALZHEIMER'S. WE HAD LOST THE ABILITY TO TALK TO EACH OTHER ABOUT CHILDREN AND GRANDCHILDREN. MY DAD DIED A FEW YEARS AFTER BUT THERE HAD BEEN MANY HAPPY TIMES AND AREN'T WE LUCKY TO HAVE HAD SUCH GREAT PARENTS?
Lovely and life-ly - not overly sentimental. a wonderful painting and great memories.
Charlotte, my deepest sympathies. You were surely led to work on that piece in the perfect timing. I love the chair. I pray you are comforted in this time of loss.
Charlotte, my condolences for the loss of your parents. I, too, have lost both parents and know how you will continue to reflect on the good memories. What a wonderful way to have this memory forever.
