At my Mother's urging, I took a photograph of all the flowers that were blooming in the morning in the front of my home on May 14. By that evening, we had the worst hail storm you can imagine with an assortment of sizes ranging from marble-sized to the largest being the size of two walnuts held together. Lots of damage to my home and none of the flowers remained. I've decided to do some small works to remember them all. Memorial #1

Sigh...the vagaries of spring, eh? I'm sorry you lost your flowers but so happy to know you've captured them on camera! (I seem to be the only one around town here who no longer has lilac blooms and haven't for at least a week and a half or more. I don't know if the winds took them or if my planting the plant and leaving it alone killed it!) These are beautiful and the leaves and greenery are so well done!
Linda, it breaks my heart to hear that you suffered such damage from the storm. Thank goodness for your mother's intuition to take pictures of your flowers. Your painting is tender and beautiful, and carries with it some of the sadness of your loss.
I would imagine that your first concern is repairing the damage to your home, but if you need any perennial babies, let me know!
Painting your flowers will keep them from fading. I love some of these old fasioned flowers like bleeding hearts...
I hope your repair work goes smoothly...and I am looking forward to more of these flower images.
Thank you for your concerns; our aluminum siding will need to be redone; it's damaged on three sides and my husband's shed which had vinyl siding looks like the remains of Bonnie and Clyde's bullet-ridden car!
The bleeding heart is Mother's second favorite flower; her first is the Tropicana Rose. More little paintings to come....
Sorry to hear you suffered such damage. Hope painting your garden will give you joy and peace.
Beautiful painting and a most fitting flower to paint first.
Art has a great way of healing. That storm was scary. I really like the rich colors in this painting and the composition is right on.
