A SOLDIER'S THANK YOU Cecelia Lyden

This is the soldier whose mother purchased my 9/11 painting. You may recall that I got permission from the AP photographer, Gulnara Samoilova, to paint her amazing photo, shot on 9/11. His mother purchased the painting and gave it to her son as a reminder that people were and are grateful for his service to his country.

I received this photo and the one above it of the U.S. flag tucked in his pack as a thank you from him. He sent me an explanation that he carried the Flag, an inspiration for him, in his pack as he patrolled the streets and alleys of Iraq. Along with the photos, he sent me the Flag.

It is the most memorable and the most emotional thank you I have ever received. Needless to say, I will fly that flag with a heightened sense of pride.

Thank you for letting me share this with you.

Cecilia, your words, your photos, your painting...all have moved me to tears. I hadn't seen this painting before and it is so moving, so touching. I too thank our soldiers. They make up the fabric of this country.

It is so wonderful to see a work of art that is much more than a painting... much, much more.
