11" x 14", pastel
This recently completed portrait of my daughter is based on a photo I took of her last year, sitting along the Anclote River at the Sponge Docks of Tarpon Springs, Florida. I've only done a few portraits in pastel and am not sure how to make a working combination of my style and the heavy tooth of pastel paper. (This paper is Canson's Mi-Teintes and claims to have a "subtle" texture, but it's still more than I'm used to.) I just got a batch of sanded Art Spectrum Colourfix paper that's coated with a primer with a fine, sandy grain. It's actually a smoother surface, but will still hold the pastel, so we'll see.

Your portrait is lovely and the texture works ok. I know that sometimes you may like less texture. Try the back of the Canson paper. It should have less texture and still work just fine. I enjoy the art specturm paper and I know you will too. Can't wait to see what you do with it.
Welcome to the daily painters Dianne. Your portrait of your daughter is just lovely.
How wonderful to be able to capture your daughter in a work of art. That is a true blessing. Her skin is so creamy and healthy.
