I looked at this and almost got the sensation that your canoeist was starting to move - great painting! Love the color of the canoe and how it complements the color of the water.
I am trying the use of pastels on transparent watercolor- do you treat the piece with anything in particular to save the pastel? I like the idea of highlighting my trees & flowers in my landscapes with pastel for effect like you.
Thom, I just use the pastel here and there... never alot. I do not spray any fix on it because I find it changes the color. Then I mat and frame under glass (no plexi because of static... it will attract the pastel powder) I use spacers in my full pastel paintings between the mat and painting so that the pastel powder will fall behind and not onto the glass... but did not use spacers in this painting because there was just a small amount of pastel. Thanks for the comment.

What an awesome painting, Maria. I love the colors too and that man looks so real, so fascinating.
