My Favorite Things #1 - "Strings Attached", an Original oil painting by Rebecca Jennings (Sunny)

I am currently working on a series of "My Favorite Things", where memories of childhood days are the primary focus. Come along with me on my journey into the carefree days of a past, all-but-forgotten way of life.  Together we will reminisce and recreate happy times.
"Strings Attached"
10" x 8"
Oil on Canvas Panel

These  old skates hanging on a nail on the covered porch wall remind me of the kids of our little town meeting at Myers' pond to go skating several times during the winter. The bigger boys would shovel any new-fallen snow off the ice. Sometimes there would be a wood fire far back on the bank to warm our hands by. It was a regular meeting place for all the neighborhood, kids and adults alike.

Some of my paintings for sale. I also do commissions on a regular basis. You can see my other work at "Sunny's Fine Art Studio". Just click on the link.

MORNING AFTER SNOW II

MORNING AFTER SNOW II
6' x 8"
oil on canvas board

I love the morning after a snow storm when no footprints, except the bird's and the squirrel's, mar the pure rounded sculpture the snow creates.  This Sunday morning in Brooklyn no one has even opened the door to see what's out there.
In Merion it is a different story altogether.  This older work painted outside shows a bit more of the wild beauty of nature.

Winter's Snowy Lane - acrylic impressionistic palette knife landscape painting by Pennsylvania Artist Pat Koscienski

Winter's Snowy Lane
11" x 14"
Acrylic on canvas

This is one of the 4 winter scenes that I was inspired to paint because of the heavy snows that we got. Looking through my very large morgue I was able to come up with many years of heavy snow references. And, believe me, there were many. This painting was done mainly with a palette knife.  If you have any questions or wish to purchase, contact PAT.  To see more of my paintings, please visit my website and/or blogspot at:

Winter Plein Air Painting - Julie Riker

Well, I finally did it!  I have been telling everyone that I was going to get out there and do some winter plein air painting, but always something comes up or I chicken out with the cold weather.  This morning I woke up to bright sunshine and long purple cast shadows and I knew I had to go out.  After reading Mary Beth's link about "disconnecting" I grabbed what I needed and went out on what was maybe the coldest day so far this year.  I have been reading Stapleton Kearn's blog http://stapletonkearns.blogspot.com/ and his witty discussions about what to wear when painting in the snow so I had some idea of how to dress.  I wasn't about to sink $200 into the super insulated boots he recommended, but I did have the chemical heat packs which help quite a bit.  I had many many layers and was quite comfortable painting...the only thing that got really cold were my right hand fingertips, even with my warmest gloves.  I ended up switching hands several times and painting left handed to warm up the right hand in my pocket.  I was only able to spend an hour on the 6x8 plein air sketch.

Home, a hot shower, and a cup of tea...I was still thinking about the scene I had painted, so I went to work on a larger version in the comfort of my studio.  I spent about 2 hours on the larger one.

I am very happy with the day's work.  I have been missing that connection with nature that you can only get from direct observation, not from photographs.   Winter painting is not that bad.  You just have to be prepared and maybe paint in shorter sessions.

..and maybe I'll think again about those boots.

"A Winters Day" By Debra Tritt Kreiger

"A Winters Day"
10"x14" watercolor on 140lb arches paper

I painted this painting from a scene right outside my studio window. It was one of those cold dreary snowy days and this bright little fellow came to visit. It is no wonder people just love the warm colorful sight of a cardinal in winter. Hoping you all have a very happy and peaceful holiday season.

Snow and Trees - It Must Be Winter

I have a series of winter scenes coming off easel. Here is the first, well, actually, the third. The first two sold before the paint was dry. That's what I call "gratifying."

The View from My Studio by Rodrica Tilley

Returning from a month in sunny, but cold, northern New Mexico this sight was a bit of a shock. It turned out OK though (most of the shoveling and plowing was all ready done); just left me with some easel work to pull this together. It only takes fabulous lighting to warm up even the snow.

I got to see something unique, to me, in New Mexico...frozen fog in the desert! Yes, it was cold there too in February. Back in Northeastern PA I saw my first red-winged blackbird yesterday and a chipmunk today. There are three snowdrops peeking out from under a shrinking snow drift by my front walk...so here's hoping for spring, although it traditionally arrives late in this mountainous frozen corner of Pennsylvania.

DEEP SNOW
by Claire Beadon Carnell

'Deep Snow'
Oil 8 x 10

Several postings ago I put up some photos of
the snowstorm we got that dumped almost two
feet of snow all over our yard. Well...only four
short days later we got another storm, and at least
18 more inches of snow!

This is the view of my garden shed, and the
fence that surrounds the
garden - before the wind kicked up and the
snow started to drift. The iron obelisk that
I use to trellis my morning glories is a little over
four feet tall...thats the thing there in the foreground
peeking up through the snow...

I am beginning to think that groundhog
might have made a nice little stew...just kidding...

2010 Winter Series #8

6"x4" Miniature Original Watercolor
$275.00 ~ Contact the studio

This little scene was from the B&B we
stayed in when in Great Barrington, MA.
It had been cold and snowy. Here is what
I like...you have this wonderful still life
and yet out the window is a winter scene.
Its like two separate paintings in one!

Below is the finished painting I used as part
of my glass painting demo...I set up a still life
trying to show clear glass and colored glass.
The image is 9"x13"
There is still room in my classes... It is a very
relaxed atmosphere where everyone works
on their own subject. I demo and give hands
on help. Held in Lititz, PA
Check my painting a day blog for more thoughts...

Hawley Farm by Rodrica Tilley

Susquehanna County farm land is marginal, at best, and only the cleverest and hardest working farmers make their farms prosper in this northern, hilly section of our state. This traditional dairy farm has branched out into retail meats and uses natural and sustainable practices to raise animals & crops.

The picturesque quality to the agricultural lands here is top notch. On this partially overcast winter's day only one young cow (known as a heiffer, until it gives birth-freshens) was out grazing on a bit of exposed pasture.

Winter Stream by Pennsylvania Daily Painter Pat Koscienski

"Winter Stream"
18" x 24" matted & framed
Pastel

"Winter Stream" was done from a photo of a small, Pennysylvania stream off Hartzdale Drive in Camp Hill. The warm sunlight was bouncing of the tree trunks, giving some warmth to the day. 2010 Window Study #2 ~ Andy Amith, watercolors

6"x4" Miniature Original Watercolor
$225. contact the studio for more info

A few weeks ago I was in Great Barrington, MA.
I stopped for gas and this scene was across the
street. A large show window with big pottery
vessals. I liked the way the snow was piled up
against the building and a few dead plant stalks
poking up. I plan to paint this again tomorrow
in a large view.

I love the angle I used here. Laying in
a cornfield with just part of the barn in
view. Bare trees, snow and the moon.
