My Favorite Things #1 - "Strings Attached", an Original oil painting by Rebecca Jennings (Sunny)

I am currently working on a series of "My Favorite Things", where memories of childhood days are the primary focus. Come along with me on my journey into the carefree days of a past, all-but-forgotten way of life.  Together we will reminisce and recreate happy times.

These  old skates hanging on a nail on the covered porch wall remind me of the kids of our little town meeting at Myers' pond to go skating several times during the winter. The bigger boys would shovel any new-fallen snow off the ice. Sometimes there would be a wood fire far back on the bank to warm our hands by. It was a regular meeting place for all the neighborhood, kids and adults alike.

Some of my paintings for sale. I also do commissions on a regular basis. You can see my other work at "Sunny's Fine Art Studio". Just click on the link.

Kentucky Snow!, an original Oil painting by Rebecca Jennings (Sunny)

"Kentucky Snow!"
8" x 10"
Oil on stretched canvas
The deer at our old home in Kentucky would come up near the big oak tree early in the mornings looking for acorns, then move on into the field near our neighbor's pond, which had been partially covered with ice. The deer seemed so tame and friendly... until we step outside.
The broom-sage in the back field gave off a lovely orange-ish glow in the early morning sunrise.

This painting has recently been Sold. If you would like to view more of my work, you can see it here at "Sunny's Fine Art Studio"

Winter Stream - impressionistic representational pastel winter landscape painting by Pennsylvania Contemporary Artist Pat Koscienski

"Winter Stream"
18" x 24" matted & framed
Pastel

"Winter Stream" is a pastel painting done on paper from a photo of a small, Pennysylvania stream off Hartzdale Drive in Camp Hill. The warm sunlight was bouncing of the tree trunks, giving some warmth to the day. If interested in purchasing, contact Pat. Andy Smith, watercolors ~ Lititz, PA

A Painting A Day ~ Winter Series #5
4"x 6" Original Miniature Watercolor

Again I borrowed from my friend Nancy.
This is from one of her photo's from Rock
Ford. I like the monochromatic feel to the
bare trees and lone bench. It is either lonely
or inviting depending upon your mood!

Deb Watson Watercolor Lessons

Lesson # 1 - Sept 10 Deb Watson Watercolor

My classes start this week and I'm beginning with a simple landscape to show how to put it on and take it off to get hard or soft edges and color saturation. I used sparkly stuff on it to make the snow glisten, but when I sprayed it with varnish, the glittery effect was gone! Maybe I'll put more on top. I'm going to post my lesson on my website on Wednesday. www.debiwatson.com

"A Winters Day" By Debra Tritt Kreiger

"A Winters Day"
10"x14" watercolor on 140lb arches paper

I painted this painting from a scene right outside my studio window. It was one of those cold dreary snowy days and this bright little fellow came to visit. It is no wonder people just love the warm colorful sight of a cardinal in winter. Hoping you all have a very happy and peaceful holiday season.

Cooler weather heats up my studio efforts! paintings by David Bottini, for Gabriel

The weather is shifting and autumn is here. I love this time of year - the pale light and the emerging autumn colors - ahhh (and the cool nights).
Was really cooking in the studio the past few week ... a large piece for a November group show and a few studies completed and a new large painting moving along. Enjoyed a fun reception for a collaborative exhibit at Mercersburg Academy - I am paired with Eric Olson (see the invite for contrast of our imagery)
Just completed (i think) a holiday themed piece - wanted it early so it has time on exhibit in a gallery to find a new owner before December (I prefer wishful thinking : )

The View from My Studio by Rodrica Tilley

Returning from a month in sunny, but cold, northern New Mexico this sight was a bit of a shock. It turned out OK though (most of the shoveling and plowing was all ready done); just left me with some easel work to pull this together. It only takes fabulous lighting to warm up even the snow.

I got to see something unique, to me, in New Mexico...frozen fog in the desert! Yes, it was cold there too in February. Back in Northeastern PA I saw my first red-winged blackbird yesterday and a chipmunk today. There are three snowdrops peeking out from under a shrinking snow drift by my front walk...so here's hoping for spring, although it traditionally arrives late in this mountainous frozen corner of Pennsylvania.

2010 Winter Series #16 ~ Andy Smith, watercolors

4"x6" Miniature Original Watercolor
$350.00 ~ Contact the Studio

Inspiration is everywhere. This is my bicycle route...
Finally the road was dry and I could get out for a ride.
The snow was still piled pretty high on the sides.
This is a perfect scene to practice painting trees.
I have been studying trees and trying to improve the
way I paint them.

Blackwater, by Ron Donoughe

Last week we had a brief period of sunshine here in Pittsburgh. Even if I'm working inside on a commission, like I was, it is impossible for me to stay there. Light on snow just has that effect on my senses. A favorite place to paint winter landscapes is Fox Chapel. This was done by Trillium Trail. The real challenge is painting the shifting shadows over ice that is melting. Add the chilling 15 or 20 degree temperature and it is easy to understand why most artists prefer to work inside using photos as reference. But for me there is a special feeling of accomplishment that working outdoors brings. It is difficult to explain. The spirit of a place somehow becomes part of the painting. Even if I'm not satisfied with the finished painting, I'm always pleased with the experience. Time spent looking closely at nature is never wasted.

It is 16 x 20 inches, oil on linen.
