THE SCARLET ROSE by Linda Benton McCloskey
Just finished! I started this piece as a demo at the Mechanicsburg Art Center last week, worked on it again as a demo at my Monday night class here in my home studio - and just put the final touches on it this afternoon. It's acrylic - 36 x 36 on stretched canvas. It definitely has become one of my favorites. Why is it that the last one you worked on is your favorite?

Golden Haze - Modern Contemporary Abstract Acrylic Landscape Painting on Canvas by Pennsylvania Daily Painter Pat Koscienski
24" x 49"
Acrylic on Canvas
Golden Haze was done in acrylic on raw canvas using a staining technique. It was greatly influenced by Helen Frankenthaler who used oil paint on raw canvas. Whereas oil paint will ultimately destroy the unprimed canvas, acrylic paint will not. This painting will be one of 2 of mine that will be on display at the Harrisburg Capitol East Wing Rotunda in the DPP Exhibit during the month of June. The DPP Exhibit will then be transferred to Gallerie 13 in Mechanicsburg, Pa during the month of July. If in the area, please stop by to see it. If you have any questions, or wish to purchase, contact PAT To see more of my paintings, both representational and abstract, please visit my website and blogspot at:

Linda Benton McCloskey - Finally, Number 10 of 10 - Abstract on Canvas - 48 x 36 - "Stepping Back"
I'm late in posting my number 10 painting. My computer has been down for the past 3 days and we just got it back from repair. This painting is quite large as you can see - 48 x 36 - and is on canvas - mostly acrylic, but does have some charcoal. I've been busy painting since I will be having an exhibition at Gallery on Second in Harrisburg, PA. The reception is August 13th from 6 to 9. Stop in if you can.

Practice makes better
But perfect?
Not ever...
Especially if drawing
Is what you can do
You’ll prob’ly improve
But that’s questionable, too
My advice to you
Buy an Etch-a-Sketch too!

"Rock-A-Bye" by Linda Benton McCloskey

My latest abstract painting, "Rock-A-Bye". This painting actually started as a demonstration during one of my experimental classes at the Art Association of Harrisburg. I decided to exhibit it the other way around, but my students convinced me that it was "upside down". They were right! After looking at it the other way for awhile, I turned it the other way and signed it. We thought it looked like an abstract boat teetering in the water...hence the name. It's watermedia - image 27 x 18 - and is painted on paper.

Rhythm & Blues Series ( With Apples, Bowls, Bottles) by Bertie Brown

Rhythm & Blues
image: 21"w x 27"h
“Rhapsody in Blue”
Was our music today
Sophie and I thrilled
To the opening way
That the clarinet soared
Through that octave and more...
We set up a still life
With lots of great blues
We have so much fabric
It’s hard just to choose
Then added some apples
Three bottles, two bowls
On top of the fabric
With plenty of folds
We hummed to the tunes
While painting till noon
Sophie, my rhapsody
In tap dancin’ shoes
Gerschwin and Orchestra
Playin’ his blues!

"Winter's Delight" by Pennsylvania Daily Painter Pat Koscienski
"Winter's Delight" is an abstracted, acrylic painting of a cold, icy winter scene. The red berries were a delight to be seen through the frozen icicles. Of course, being an abstract, others may see other forms and have other feelings about it. This sold several months ago, but I couldn't resist posting it since it seemed apropos for the season.
