Journal Pages - India - Jennifer VonStein

Journal Pages - India :: Acrylic/Collage on paper
Here are some impressions of my recent trip to Udaiper, in Rajasthan, India. I had some time while at the trade show yesterday, and luckily, when it's slow at the booth, that means I get to paint! I'm not really an abstract artist, but all the colors and smells and non-western art are coming out in my paintings. On the left page, I used a transfer technique and transferred one of my photos of the Jagdish Temple, from the 17th century. On the right side is an interpretation of a statue of one the gods (I think it was Rama?) with some collaged photos of the temple. Anyway, I'm sure I will do some representational pieces too, but this one just had to come out!

Steve Aimone Workshop - Linda Benton McCloskey

Here's a photo of me at the end of my stay in New Smyrna Beach, FL - where I attended an "independent study" workshop held by Steven Aimone (www.aimoneartservices.com). I do have the two paintings on my right already uploaded to my website (www.LindaBentonMccloskey.com). The one on my left is my absolute favorite...it's at my framer being stretched. I have never painted on unstretched RAW canvas before - and have found that this just may be my new favorite support. Raw canvas accepts paint differently than primed canvas. As soon as I get photos of the untitled one (it's actually two that I plan to exhibit as one), I'll be posting as well.

"Rock-A-Bye" by Linda Benton McCloskey

My latest abstract painting, "Rock-A-Bye". This painting actually started as a demonstration during one of my experimental classes at the Art Association of Harrisburg. I decided to exhibit it the other way around, but my students convinced me that it was "upside down". They were right! After looking at it the other way for awhile, I turned it the other way and signed it. We thought it looked like an abstract boat teetering in the water...hence the name. It's watermedia - image 27 x 18 - and is painted on paper.

Several Of My Newest Paintings

Thanks to the Daily Painters of Pennsylvania - I've been invited to join the group.
For those who are not familiar with my work, I have added two of my newest paintings above. My motto - "Painting is my passion". I paint every day. If not painting, I'll be reading about art on the internet or from one of the many magazines I subscribe to.
Having recently moved, I have a new large studio in my home which I find to be wonderful. I can now paint at 5 in the morning or even late at night. I am a teacher of experimental art at several of the local art associations (Art Assoc. of Harrisburg, York Art Association, and the Art Center of Mechanicsburg). I also teach encaustic workshops throughout the state and do travel elsewhere. In fact, I'll be demonstrating at the "International Society of Experimental Artists" (ISAP) annual international juried show to be held in Michigan in June. My demo is scheduled for June 3rd. If in the area, please stop by. Again, it's great to be part of the group!
