"View from the Terrace" Oil Pastel by Tatiana Myers.

"View from the Terrace"
 10 x 8 ", RTX 280, OIl Pastels.

This will be one of two works what I'm planning to include in Plein Air exhibit at Kings Gap  State park this upcoming Sunday.
Just another little something, nothing special. Once again I totally loved to work with this new panels. I used a lot of solvent on background  of this painting, what gave it almost a feeling of real Oil. Front was "drawn" with Oil Pastel sticks and no solvent. I like combination of both methods in one painting.
Just what I wanted to see !..

De-Composers Abstract Watercolor Dried Sunflowers by Pennsylvania Daily Painter Bertie Brown/Art is Instrumental

De-Composers

abstract watercolor floral/sunflowers: 5"w x 7"h

Stunning Conclusions

here at last

the stunning conclusion

to their storied past

there’s no confusin’

those wild and crazy girls

now with spiky brittle

and styleless curls

their skirts a jumble

of twisted brown leaves

how easily they crumble

yet still they cleave

to those good ol’ summer days

when they danced the lindy-hop

in their fancy free way

they were the queens of be-bop

with nary a care

nor thought for the morrow

those girls, savoir faire

had no regrets nor sorrows

with curls unfurled

and skirts that flew

they dipped and twirled

on their well heeled shoe

I sure do miss them

I wonder, will you?

Shaker Sunset ~ ANDY SMITH, watercolor

4"x 6" Watercolor
I like off beat angles. The corner of the building
with a long landscape, another building in the
far background. I used a polymer over the top
which gives it an oil painting feel. Just needed to
play around a bit.

Next set of 4 classes start next week. I have
openings Wednesday morning and evening.
Email if your interested. I have a student blog
featuring my students paintings. I add to it daily.

Hazy Skyline by Julie Riker

6x12
plein air oil
I painted this last week at the West Fairview boat launch looking across the river to Harrisburg. On the left is the dome of the capitol where the Daily Painters had their exhibit last month. I have tried to paint this skyline several times and always find it difficult keeping the buildings pushed back and not too detailed, but the hazy light helped to reduce the shapes to shades of gray. I think this is probably the first painting I have ever done en plein air and not added some small addition to in my studio. I lived with it for a few days and now I feel like I should just let it be.

'BEER CRAWL IN THE FALL' Live Demo

I will be doing a live demo this Saturday
at the
Carlisle
BEER CRAWL IN THE FALL
Noon until 5PM
at the Leaf of Eve Boutique on Pomfret Street, Carlisle.
The Wine Tasting of 2009 & 2010 were a lot of fun.
This should be also!

I will be painting a family portrait of
Scarce Chaser (Libellula fulva)
It is a colorful family- the male is sky blue
the mother is pumpkin orange and
the nymph stage looks like a bug.
The above painting (Sold) is similar, but from a broken family
It's a mother/daughter portrait.

If you are coming, please partake heavily of the beer
before crawling with an open wallet to my demo.
Cards, Mugs, Prints & Originals for a bargain!

I am also exhibiting in a solo show in Carlisle
for October through December at
Murata Business at Center, 453 Lincoln Street.

Elephant Walk Watercolor by Kathy Michels

"Elephant Walk" was so much fun to paint. The circus came to Hershey a few months ago. I happened to see the train rounding the bend. I try to never leave home without my camera and was so happy I had it that day. I could see the train slowing so I parked and headed for the small group of people that had gathered. It was a once in a lifetime opportunity as I got to see elephants being unloaded from the train and marched up the street. The elephants all looked so happy it was amazing. I was so glad I could capture those moments with the camera and it was so exciting to relive those moments as I painted this watercolor.

"Jack Russell Terrier" Pastel by Charlotte Yealey

9x12
Pastel
This summer my husband and I went to watch a "dock dogs" event at a lake near our home where I photographed this little guy. He was not one of the dogs jumping off the dock but he was a spectator with his owner. I did this painting in one day, today, trying to get back to a painting a day.

Abstract: A Day on the Gulf of Mexico by Linda Young

13-3/4 x 10"
A Day on the Gulf of Mexico
by Linda Young, artist

Take an excursion on a glass bottom boat and you'll see all the colors of the rainbow.  Do some fishing, look at the coral, see the greens of the seaweed.  Gaze upon the horizon and watch for the beautiful sunsets and maybe even do some sailing.  Just a day on the Gulf of Mexico when there wasn't any oil to mess it up.  Such was the day in February of this year and I loved every minute of it.

This painting is going to be up for bids at the Carlisle Arts Learning Center's annual fundraiser called the mARTini Auction.

Egg-ceptional Eggplants

Sophie said, “Let’s do a painting today

We’ll use some veggies

With plenty to say

There at the groc’ry store

Dark and demure

Eggplants so purple

Their beauty secure...

Yes, let’s buy them

Not to fry them

But to show the world

Their outspoken beauty

It’s really our duty

To capture their deep.....

Dark sheen!

YELLOW FIELD IN GETTYSBURG

I caught sight of this field of yellow wildflowers after a visit to the "teddy bear barn" in Gettysburg. It was an overcast day, but those bright flowers and pinkish dried grasses still jumped right out at me.

ISLAND NEAR THE SUSQUEHANNA SHORE

acrylic on masonite
8x10
What a pleasant feeling to be painting with eleven or so fellow artists on a beautiful morning in a tranquil spot. Plein air painting is a new experience for me and I have been enjoying it thoroughly. This painting, though started on site, was signifcantly changed in studio, so I can not call it a true plein air painting, but it was definitly plein air inspired.

Harrisburg Skyline I by Lyn O'Neal

Harrisburg Skyline I
oil on linen board
6 x 8 inches
Painted from the West Fairview Boat Launch, this little piece is the view of the Harrisburg city skyline and the bordering Susquehanna River. I've been wanting to paint the skyline for a while and the day finally came. The Boat Launch was a beautiful location with outstanding inspiration for many paintings. I know I'll be painting there again.

"View from Hauser Estate Winery" by Dianne Lorden

I finally revisited the pastel I began on that blustery day at Hauser Estate Winery, Biglerville, Pa. This view shows the familiar Round Barn and surrounds. I used a paper I had not tried before: Pastello Tiziano in "flecked colours" by Fabriano, 11-3/4 x 16-1/2. The painting is done in a combination of Nu-Pastel and Rembrandt. Well, it turned out kind of primitive-looking - even for me - but somehow I still find it pleasing. Hopefully, my next attempt on this very nice paper will be under calmer circumstances! Glad to be back :)

Sophie’s Suzies

Our black eyed suzies

are still quite the floozies

as they keep hangin on

singin’ their swan song

we know they won’t last

‘bout a day and a half

but while they are here

they give us great cheer

as we try not to fear

the coldest time of year

when Sophie and I

will snuggle up inside

with the paintings we have done

Hopes Spring by Patrica Kline

Hope Springs - Watercolor 24"x 35" Arches Cold Press #150
Two young ladies leap in front of the Hershey Garden's Butterfly Catcher statue in early spring. This was a simple act of youthful fun that turned into a great photographic opportunity. The mixture of the bronze implying action vs. the frivolity of these young adults, is poetic symbolism. Couldn't help myself.

Sunlit Courtyard by Julie Riker

11x14
oil on canvas
This was painted at King's Gap State Park. There is a lovely ivy covered mansion there which was once a private summer home, but is now used for educational seminars and retreats. I love the contrast between the dark ivy and the pinkish stone walls.
I will be exhibiting this painting with the Susquehanna Valley Plein Air Painters at King's Gap on October 3rd during the park's Garden Harvest Festival. I will also be painting on site during the event, along with several other painters from the group.

A BEAUTIFUL SIGHT By Cecelia Lyden

acrylic on masonite
11x14
I was on my way to meet other plein air artists at Kings Gap. I had just turned on to Kings Gap Road when I saw this beautiful horse grazing in the sunlight in front of this white, white shed with a pinkish colored roof. I came to a sreeching stop, looked and then backed up to take whatever pictures I could. I have never painted an animal, but this sight was just to beautiful to resist.

Barn Swallow Fly By Patrica Kline

Watercolor 9"x 12" Arches Cold Press #150
Bachmanville, PA featured a classic barn for years. Barn swallow youngsters wait for feeding as they roost in the old window sill. The slight shadow of their parent shows on the wall below them. The stone used to build this barn is sometimes called ironstone due to the high iron content (red sandstone). Just a few miles east of Bachmanville, the limestone comes to the surface and the buildings show the difference by turning from red to grey. This barn foundation features both stone.

Ole' Joe by Patrica Kline

Watercolor - 23"x16", Arches Cold Press #150
Farewell to Thee Ole' Joe is a line from a great song from the Appalachian style of music. This is the music that digs deep into the roots of our beginnings as Americans. The banjo is a fretless Civil War era banjo and it's surrounded by the objects of the banjo's owner within a rustic cabin. It was a commission of a reproduction of a similar setup. Prints and postcards are available.

September Evening Light, 30 x 50, oil on canvas, by Ron Donoughe

Have you ever been on a road trip and the light is so incredible you have to stop, get out and just soak it in? Two weeks ago I had to stop four times. What should have been a 90 minute drive turned into 3 hours! The light continued to get better and better. I would do a small 5 x 7 inch study, drive another 30 miles, look in my rear view mirror and say wow, that's another painting. It was just too good to pass up. The above painting was done from a photo that was taken before I did the studies. I loved the way the warm evening light bathed the trees and corn fields. My photo doesn't look anything like this. I rearranged the masses to show more sky and also balance the light families.

Summer Cabin by Michael LeKites

A piece I did for a friend. This is the view from their summer cabin and she gave it as a gift for her father. The cabin is located up in southern New York area I believe.
When she picked up the piece I had forgotten to take some photos. She had sent me an image but it was poor quality. Fortunately, she brought the work back into town and this evening I was able to take a few pictures.
If you look closely on the left, you might be able to see the large white cross sitting atop a rock. Acrylic. Size is approx. 24x26.

10 x 8 ", U-art 320, Pastels.

I'm testing new experimental grade samples of sanded U-art paper .
U-art papers are known to come in 800, 600, 500 and 400 grades. However now group of pastel artists including myself had an opportunity to try some new grades. I abused this peace as much as I can (purposely, of course). Started from some very heavy wash and finished with putting on it almost all the brands of pastels I have and also did some pencil works. Paper taking multiply layers and performs really well. I'm very much looking forward to start torchering of another sample when I'll have a time for it.

WEST FAIRVIEW VISTA By Cecelia Lyden

acrylic on board
8x10
There were many scenic views to paint at the boat launch in West Fairview this past Thursday. I decided to paint a "peek-a-boo" vignette of the River. The trees framed the area I wanted to paint--a bit of an old- fashioned look, but it kept me honed in on that part of the river.
Thursday was overcast and remained that way all morning. I expected the grayish sky color to be reflected in the River and it was surprising to me that there were so many glints of blue in the water. Surprises like that are a plein air positive- observing and painting up close. The negative surprise that morning was that it never warmed up and was very breezy and very, very chilly.

Fall Leaves on the water, Linda Young artist

This is 10-1/2 x 13-1/2", Watercolor
My husband and I were driving around last fall and stopped by a stream along the Waggoner's Gap Road to sit and have a picnic lunch. While sitting there, we noticed the blue sky reflection on the water and the orange colored leaves floating in a quiet pool. Some of the leaves had already absorbed so much water they had sunk to the bottom and were decomposing and rocks were becoming covered by them.

God knew just how to paint them and placed them perfectly to compliment each other's colors for us to enjoy that day. I decided to paint them myself when I got home.
