"By the Sea" by Debra Tritt Kreiger

"By the Sea" 10"x15" watercolor on 140lb Arches paper
By the sea was inspired by a place in Mount Pleasant, South Carolina called Shem's Creek. Wonderful small inlet where fishing boats go in and out and the birds and dolphins as well as people just love it. What caught my eye was the bright building and the unusual blue sailboat and of coarse the pelican and seagulls!

I drove the Adirondack Mountains region of New York to drop off my son at camp this past weekend.  Rather than just turning around and driving straight back, I thought I would tour around the lake region a bit and came across this wonderful marina at Schroon Lake where I spotted this sailboat that was begging to be painted!  This piece is painted completely with a palette knife.  I wanted to achieve a sense of atmosphere that was present when I was painting it… a misty, overcast kind of day.  I was close enough to hear the water lapping against the rocks.  It was a blissful moment.  I am happy with the results.

"Low Tide " by Debra Tritt-Kreiger

"Low Tide" - Watercolor 8.5x11.5 on Arches 140lb paper

I have been working out of my comfort zone. (Comforts of an air conditioned studio) This is a painting I did Plein Air in Cape Cod along the Bass River. The tide was coming up to us as we painted and we got out of there just in time!
