12 x 9 - Acrylic on Panel
This plein air painting of the Susquehanna makes me laugh. I had just set up my palette when a breeze - or my arm - knocked it into the shore. Do I put out new colors...no, too embaressed because I could hear fisherman behind me. Being an intrepid soul, I just mixed the dirt and sand into my colors and proceeded. I really like the texture this produced, although my colors did get a bit muddy - no pun intended!
This painting and 7 others will show at the 2nd Annual Outdoor Art Show at Marion Court Room/Courtside Lounge, 7 Marion St., Lancaster. The date of the event is August 29, 2010, from 11-9. Art, music, food, drinks - should be a fun time!

Jennifer, I looked closely at your painting BEFORE I read your post and thought "wow! how'd she get that texture?" Now, I know and think it's a great story. I'm sure the Masters had many tales to tell in creating their paintings too. If we only knew! Good job.
Thanks Linda! Painting with a palette knife also helped, too!
Jennifer - the directness of approach and physicality of your paint work well in this painting - the added texture is both an enhancement and a great narrative. (Anselm Keiffer burnt his panels, DuBuffet added sand ...)
JENNIFER-TWO MILE HOUSE IS IN CARLISLE--SOUTH ON 81--EXIT 45 --TURN LEFT--IT'S A STONE HOUSE WITH LOVELY GROUNDS--USED FOR WEDDINGS ETC.--IT SITS RIGHT ON THE BUSY ROAD--WALNUT BOTTOM RD, I THINK
WHAT A CREATIVE AND INTUITIVE RESPONSE TO YOUR "HAPPY ACCIDENT"--FRAME IT, HANG IT AND SELL IT--
I really want to come to your exhibit and have marked it on my calandar. Love your story...you are also a plein air warrior!
It wouldn't be plein air without a little surf and turf mixed in with the paint - I usually have a beetle or two that stick to my canvas. I enjoy the energy of color and movement in this piece.
I think it is gorgeous!
