"Sunset at Kings Gap" by Debra Tritt-Kreiger

"Sunset at Kings Gap"
Watercolor

Painting size is 10"x13" and is painted on 140lb Arches cold pressed paper. The painting is for sale and can be seen and purchased at Gallerie 13.

I'm very excited to be a part of the Daily Painters of Pennsylvania. This is my first experience with blogging and it's a little challenging. Please let me know what you think.

This is a watercolor painting I did recently. It was a scene from Kings Gap on a nice cool autumn evening. I work from my own photographs in the comfort of my studio, but enjoy exploring Pennsylvania's great outdoors with my camera in hand.

"Silver Springs Wetlands"
12" x 16"

"Silver Springs Wetlands" was painted plein aire at a wetlands located near Bate's Farm off Silver Springs Road in Mechanicsburg, PA. Several people passing by remarked about the drab, colorless day. 'Winter Moon'
by Claire Beadon Carnell
Oil 6X8 on stretched canvas

I was having difficulty sleeping the other night, and rather than toss and turn and think of all of other things I could be doing (or should be doing), I decided to get up and paint. It was nice, because I had already sketched this one on a small canvas with paint the day before. It was in my mind to create something I could use to reproduce as Christmas cards for this year.
It was so nice and quiet, and before I knew it I was almost completely done! Went back to bed and was able to sleep an hour and a half before the alarm clock woke me.
When I checked the painting, I was glad to see that it wasn't just a dream...
Hope everyone is having a wonderful Thanksgiving. We are all so blessed, and have so very much to be thankful for. My daughter and her family are coming over for dinner and there will be much fun with the grandbabies. Happy Thanksgiving!

Commissioned Landscape
by Claire Beadon Carnell
Step 2 - Initial Laying in of Color

This is the second stage of the landscape painting I am working on. In this phase of work I am blocking thin layers of color in, keeping them the same value (lightness or darkness) as the underpainting.
I also start to do some refining, without getting into a lot of detail. I shifted the fence over to the left because I felt it was too centered. Think this works much better.
At the end of my painting session, I take a palette knife and lightly skim over the painted surface to remove any thick spots of paint. I want to keep this layer thin, and save the thicker, more textured paint for later on in the process.
Happy Thanksgiving, everyone!

Commissioned Landscape
by Claire Beadon Carnell
Work In Progress - Step One

This is a landscape commission I have started working on recently that is of a log cabin in Wyoming. The light will be filtering in through the trees on the left, creating some great sunny areas as well as deep shadows. In the foreground grasses, there are many summer wildflowers, which I am am really looking forward to painting!
There is a rocky run-off area that starts just off center at the bottom of the canvas, and curves slightly left before disappearing. The fireplace is stone. It's a gorgeous place, and holds lots of happy family memories for the owners.
There may be a glimpse of a log cabin workshop behind the left side of the cabin - checking with my client to see if they want that there (my notes were taken months ago, and are not clear in that area :( )
I thought it would be interesting to post my process in steps. This is the underpainting, which maps out the dark and light areas. Doing this first helps nail down composition as well as the values and is very helpful when starting to block in color. In this particular painting, my underpainting is more detailed than I would normally have because I want the client to get a good idea what this will look like at the onset.
See you when the next step is complete!

"Autumn Deer" by Pat Koscienski

"Autumn Deer"
18" x 24"
Oil
"Autumn Deer" was painted in oil during a week long workshop with wildlife artist Ken Wetzel. Ken would have his students bring a canvas panel... along with the piece we worked on. All his demonstrations would be on our own personal panel, so not to invade the artists' paintings, keeping them entirely "our" paintings. A unique approach. This painting is apropos for this season since hunting season is soon to start. If interested in purchasing contact Pat at patsfineart@hotmail.com

"Breaking Light", oil, 9"x12" by Lyn O'Neal

Painted behind Allenberry Resort and Playhouse, this is the Yellow Breeches Creek. I was so taken by the light breaking through the trees onto the little waterfall, and the shadows all around it. It was Fall and the colors were peeking through. The crystal clear water hits the rocks and breaks into splashes and ripples. This painting is available for purchase at the Art & Soul Gallery in Lemoyne, PA. Call 717-761-1270 or email artandsoul@pa.net.

"Faith's Tree" by Pat Koscienski

"Faith's Tree"
14" x 18"
Oil on Board

"Faith's Tree" was painted plein aire at a farm in Liverpool, PA. This tree had a lot of character and I felt it deserved to be the subject of attention. And, of course the autumn colors were spectacular that year. This painting is now on exhibit at Art & Soul Gallery, 900 Market St., Lemoyne, Pa. If interested in purchasing, contact Lyn O'neal, 717-761-1270 until January.

"Little Waterfall" Plein Air by Tatiana Myers

9 X 12 ". Soft Pastel, La Carte.
Today we went somewhere in the middle of nowhere Carlisle area... Pretty creek, look like full of rainbow trout. Right enough to keep me slightly mad about not taking my fishing stuff along... Everybody was painting something different; me, on other hand - something very usual. One more little waterfall!
"Little Waterfall" is available for purchase from artist.

"November Tree" by Lyn O'Neal

I completed this little 8" x 10" painting today en plein air. It was a typically brisk Fall day and I loved how this tree was hanging on to it's bright orange leaves as if to say, "Winter, you'll have to wait until I'm finished with the display!" This painting is available for purchase through the Art & Soul Gallery in Lemoyne, Pennsylvania. Call 717-761-1270 or email artandsoul@pa.net.

Rockville Bridge, Plein Air by Tatiana Myers

View on Rockville Bridge, 9 x 12"

La Carte, Mixed soft pastels and pastel pencils. Framed, matted.

This October I had a wonderful chance to sneak out for some Plein Air painting with the group of great local artists.

We had a wonderful painting session, weather was perfect, light was perfect, everything was perfect, but timing... I had to go and finish some family business, before I finished my painting. So, this picture took some finishing touches back in my studio.

"Rockville bridge" is available for purchase from artist.

'Spring Goose' by Claire Beadon Carnell

8 X 10 Oil on Archival Panel

Early this Spring, I went out with some fellow artists to capture some of that spring blush on the landscape - those beautiful colors that appear before everything starts to turn green. We stopped at this shallow springs, and a goose hopped into the water from the edge of the bank where he had been restinig and started to swim toward us. Made for some great photos! I am sure he thought we had some food for him...

"Autumn Path" by Pat Koscienski

"Autumn Path"
6" x 6"
Acrylic
"Autumn Path" was painted plein air last autumn in Perry County, Pennsylvania. It was on a conservancy and it being a crisp autumn morning made it even nicer. It was good to know that this land would be preserved for future generations and wildlife would remain undisturbed. The trees were bursting with color and there were no complaints that day. Welcome to the Daily Painters of Pennsylvania Blog - Mary Beth Brath

Hello and Welcome to the new group blog spot for fine artists from the state of Pennsylvania that paint on a daily basis. Yes, life does happen and some days we just can't be at the easel, but for the most part, being prolific and dedicated to our careers as professional artists is what we are all about. It is much much more than a "hobby" or "outlet" or "release".

Contact me by email at mbbrath@verizon.net if you would like more information or are interested in being juried in as a member.

This painting is titled "In Touch...Yet Remote". It was created for the Garden Harvest Day Festival at King's Gap State Park in the fall of 2009. I was honored to be part of a group of plein air artists that exhibited in the mansion during the festival. This man is often seen sitting in the garden reading his newspaper.

Carpe Diem - Mary Beth
