'Winter Moon'
by Claire Beadon Carnell
Oil 6X8 on stretched canvas

I was having difficulty sleeping the other night, and rather than toss and turn and think of all of other things I could be doing (or should be doing), I decided to get up and paint. It was nice, because I had already sketched this one on a small canvas with paint the day before. It was in my mind to create something I could use to reproduce as Christmas cards for this year.
It was so nice and quiet, and before I knew it I was almost completely done! Went back to bed and was able to sleep an hour and a half before the alarm clock woke me.
When I checked the painting, I was glad to see that it wasn't just a dream...
Hope everyone is having a wonderful Thanksgiving. We are all so blessed, and have so very much to be thankful for. My daughter and her family are coming over for dinner and there will be much fun with the grandbabies. Happy Thanksgiving!

This is definitely your next Christmas card, Claire. Insomnia does you well...in the painting area that is.

Your painting shows such peace. When we lived in rural Ohio, I loved walking our dog after a fresh snowfall. Happy Thanksgiving!

What a lovely moonlit scene. Evokes just how peaceful a fresh snowfall is. I can almost smell the cool, crisp air!

I am new to this blog site, so I just read your blog about "Winter Moon"--I related to your comment about turning a sleepless night into a creative accomplishment. I often use my thoughts about a work in progress to lull me to sleep. I, too, have continued work on a painting in the predawn hours. We're lucky to have our painting and thoughts of our grandchildren to relieve any of our insomnia. Cecelia Lyden Dec 11, 2009
