SHE'S A GRAND OLD FLAG By Cecelia Lyden

acrylic/canvas
8x10
www.cecelialyden.com

I've been feeling very patriotic this 4th of July weekend. Watching the HBO John Adams series and listening to stirring patriotic music, prompted me to post this painting I did from a photo, taken at a retro general store in Boone, NC. The Stars and Stripes waving against a blue sky was beautiful to see and needed to be painted.

Trash Day by Nancy Herman

TRASH DAY
9' x 12"
oil on canvas board

'Trash Day' is finished and dry.  After all the choices I found in Photoshop I ended up painting a piece of the photograph pretty much the way it was minus the trash barrel.  The dramatic tree shadow will have to wait for a square canvas.  I am pleased with the outcome.  The boy seems somewhat burdened by his load of trash but cozy in the sun with the tree pushing him forward into the net of shadows.

Waiting For Lunch in Venice Italy by Barbara Durbin

I was asked to participate in an auction for Habitat for Humanity so I painted this watercolor of a back canal in Venice. I had lunch there several times with my husband and daughter hence the title "Waiting for Lunch."

Gingerbread Man on Main Street in Mechanicsburg PA by Daily Painter of Pennsylvania Mary Beth Brath

G-Man by Mary Beth Brath
8x10" Acrylic on Canvas
Part Plein Air and Finished in Studio

This streetscape was started plein air and finished in my studio in 2012.  It sold during a Local Scenes exhibit at Brath and Hughes Fine Art in the fall of 2012. The colors were fun but the drafting of the structure was very difficult for me to do "plein air".

The Union Church by Mary Beth Brath

Union Church by Mary Beth Brath
11x14" Acrylic on Canvas

This scene is in Mechanicsburg PA. I started it in 2011 and finished it last month for the Local Scenes Exhibit at my gallery.

Next year is the 150th Anniversary of the Civil War in our area. Plans are being made to paint at historic sites around the region in preparation for a special exhibit at the gallery. I am looking forward to painting at many new locations and learning the stories from the past.

5"x7" Original watercolor on 140# cold press paper

This is a view I spotted last week behind the restaurant and pub, Brasserie Louis.  I love the hidden doorways in town.

York Street Gettysburg PA by Mary Beth Brath

York Street Gettysburg PA
Acrylic on Canvas Panel, 11" x 14"
$190

I painted this plein air in Historic Gettysburg during the summer of 2009. Some minor adjustments were made in my studio. Gettysburg has a gorgeous town square and loads of fantastic shops lining the streets in every direction out from the square. The whole town is a must see. The streetscape shown in this post is a building on York Street (Route 30).
