I started a new group of paintings about Baba's. My Baba was a strong woman who I have great respect for. I did some paintings of her a few years ago and started some other Baba pictues this past week.
I painted the Volant Mill for a show at the Blue Heron Gallery in Volant, PA. for the month of February. I will have three paintings in the show. It is a great little town with shops and a fly fishing "creek" for the guys. Nice place to spend the day. I had a show there this past summer and was invited to be part of this reunion show. 7x10 inches done in watercolor.
For this 2.5 x 3.5 inch watercolor card, I used an image from the 1940's or 1950's I am guessing. I didn't document the date from the reference when I drew it in my sketchbook... I just liked the image.
Russian great grandfather... lived in a house built in the late 1700's. His father lived to be 108 years old. Hard work and no tv... or was it simple foods... hmmmm.
Another one of my face cards. I think I will continue to make them. They are fun and nice studies for larger images someday. They will also look great matted horizontally as suggested by a fellow artist.
This is the second of my face cards. I got the inspiration for this one and #1 from a 1942 photo that I found in an antique store in Zainsville, Ohio this summer. More to come...
I started doing these small 2.5 x 3.5 inch "face cards" and will be posting for a few days. They are small, fun and I can't wait to do more. Stay tuned.... Watercolor, 140 lb watercolor paper http://www.mklart.blogspot.com/ http://www.mklart.etsy.com/
My last commission for the season. This painting (8x26inches) was done in watercolor with soft pastel over the top. I pushed the colors and shadows for more interest. A different project for me and it ended up to be a fun one.

This is a pastel portrait that I just finished. I kept it loose and soft. It will be delivered after I fix the one detail that I just noticed. I often photograph my work to use for "proofreading."

This is a dog portrait I just finished for a commission. The story behind this dog is wonderful and the true meaning of a friend. Patient, loyal and always ready with a smile. I think we may know many dogs like this. I know my "Buddy" is. 8x10 inch watercolor. See my blog or etsy site for ordering info http://www.mklart.blogspot.com/ http://www.mklart.etsy.com/
I am Maria Kovalenko Leysens, a new member of the Daily Painters of Pennsylvania and I teach and paint at my studio, Room 101, in Mars, PA. I just wanted to start by saying hello and post a recent painting I did for a couple in Arizona. It is a small dog with a huge personality. The name of the painting? Mr. Personality of course!
